Best foot forward.
Last Thursday the 29th of April, we, VAP2, opened the doors on our end of year exhibition ‘Unit 30 Something‘ in the new arts centre located in ‘The Complex‘ in Smithfield.
Joining us that evening to open the exhibition was renowned Irish visual artist, Aideen Barry who stirred the crowd with her kind words and insightful comments on selected works within the exhibition. Aideen Barry is a graduate of Dun Laoghaire IADT’s MA in Visual Arts Practices and was very pleased to be involved in the showing of work from new artists from her own alma mater. Aideen will be exhibiting in ‘The Basement Gallery‘ in Dundalk later this year. Many thanks Aideen.
The 30-something students who showed work in the exhibition tackled diverse themes ranging from ‘residential escapism’, ‘action/anticipation’ and ‘the voyeur’ in mediums stretching all the way from photography to massive three-dimensional constructions.
What happened between the opening and when we closed up shop at 10pm that night could be considered a panacea to the miasmatic build up of stress in the students of VAP2 kind enough to lend a hand in the exhibitions conception, planning, curating and construction. Personally I feel a great well of gratitude towards all involved. Thank you.
Below are some of the photographs from the night taken by graphic design student Cian Brennan. Thanks bro.

Flippant chip off the old block.
Here we have it, a class blog for VAP2 to unleash arty armageddon upon an unwitting, unyielding and unusual audience.
This wordpress blog is a fresh wax tablet for those in the class to use it how they see fit. Expect to see work catalogued, project round-ups, personal pursuits and anything else we can redefine to suit such a narrow demographic as contemporary art.
If anyone in the class would like to be listed as a contributer, drink sponsor or affiliate, please don’t hesitate to send me an email.
